Day 1 – Arrival in Cannes
After a gruelling 26-hour round trip, yesterday marked the arrival of jury members in Cannes.
One aspect that has piqued my attention this year is the diversity both in the works showcased and the composition of the jury. I had the pleasure of meeting a fellow jury member from the design category, who flew in from Nairobi, Kenya. We immediately connected based on my own ties to the country – several family members live there.
As we ventured into Cannes, it became evident that this was a meticulously orchestrated experience. The various spaces along the Croisette were being finalised ahead of the delegate arrivals and it certainly looks like it’s going to be mighty fun.
We had the afternoon to recuperate before the evening reception. Just as we were preparing to make our way to the Carlton terrace, we were greeted by a storm that could easily rival any in Sydney. Fortunately, it passed quickly just like the ones back home but, alas, the terrace was no longer the perfectly manicured space it was. Instead, we gathered in the Carlton’s grand ballroom.
It was great to meet my fellow jury members and reconnect with colleagues from my time in London. The diversity of backgrounds among the jury members this year, encompassing client-side, account managers, planners, and creatives, promises captivating discussions within the jury room, I’m sure.
